Housing moves

Housing Moves is a scheme that allows tenants to move outside their existing borough to a different part of London. It was set up by the Mayor of London and aimed at council tenants and housing association tenants living in London who need to move to other parts of London to be near family or nearer their place of work. Non-social housing tenants are not able to participate in the scheme.

Housing Moves works in a similar way to Choice-based Lettings, properties are advertised from other London boroughs but tenants will be unable to place bids on homes in the borough in which they live. To apply you will need to go online and register at www.housingmoves.org. Applicants must complete an online form and their landlord will then verify this information.

Once registered and verified applicants will receive a number of points and can place bids through the Housing Moves website, by telephone or by SMS text message. Tenants can place up to four bids at any one time and will be able to change their bids at any time whilst the bid cycle is open. If their bid is successful, they will be invited along to view the property.
